Via de la Plata day 18: Gallisteo to Carcaboso, 11 km

Gallisteo as the sun rises

A short ‘rest day’ to try and finesse the run into Salamanca. The next five days are the hardest of the entire camino in terms of determining where to plan night stops. Of our group of four who have been in sync since Seville, I think I’m the only one who planned his entire camino, so the others are now studying my spreadsheet and Google maps route to figure out their night stops. For me, the next five days are 28, 24, 30, 28, and 25 km. Then a rest day in Salamanca. Ironically there are plenty of towns along the way with albergues – except tomorrow, so some folks do a 38 km day first up, then shorter days thereafter. Maybe I’m getting soft!

We’re staying in a brand new albergue in Carcaboso, which means we have all afternoon to relax in pleasant surroundings, listening to the sounds of the town’s fiesta (although the main fiesta was yesterday – I think today’s activities are for the kids). It’s a good day for a big Spanish lunch and a long Sunday afternoon siesta 😄
