While the route was parallel to the N630 road and or the A 66 Autovia, it was relatively peaceful as being a Sunday, the big transport trucks were not operating. In addition, although there was a perfectly good gravel road all day, the via path followed its own ‘sheep track’ with much smaller sized pebbles and therefore kinder on the feet.
Most of the landscape was cultivated, but with pockets of dehesa, which presumably survived the pressures of big farming. The town and the day’s end is yet another nondescript farming village, although its name gets shortened to “El Cubo del Vino”, which either means it’s a great place to stay the night, or it’s famous for wine in a box. Time will tell!
Lunch was great, however. Having done the day’s walk on a Larbar and a couple of cookies as there were no cafes open at 0800 in Calzada, and no towns en-route, I indulged at the local (one and only) restaurant. They had a Sunday special ‘menu del dia’ and while it was significantly more than a regular menu it was the best meal I’ve had this trip. So good it needed a second siesta😄.
