Planes, trains, bus, metro, Skytrain…. all part of the logistics of getting to the start line.
Air France was great to Paris, but the leg to Barcelona certainly gave emphasis to the plane’s manufacturer: Airbus. I watched two recent Oscar winning movies: One battle after another; and Sinners. Hopefully ‘one battle…’ didn’t get the statuette for best editing, because some extra pruning would have been of benefit (IMHO!) And vampire movies are not my cup of tea, so I’m happy that I didn’t shell out big bucks to see them at the theatre.
I’m drafting this ‘test’ post in Barcelona’s Santa train station. Once again I failed the Spanish public transit test. They love to have both metro and regular trains running the same route. After being tripped up in Madrid last time around, I thought I was wise to the trap, but Terminal 1 at Barcelona airport only has metro, but Terminal 2 has both metro and train. Needless to say I arrived at T1, took the metro to T2 planning to change metro lines, only to learn that the train was quicker and left from T2 – and included on my long distance train ticket. At least my airport metro ticket contributed to the local economy, and was marginally cheaper than a panini and cafe con leche at the train station. Not sure why Spain has paninis, but the next size up were ‘baguettes’ – seems like cultural appropriation to me.
Finishing this test at the albergue in Pamplona – the same one we stayed in on our first camino Frances in 2017. It’s still populated by numerous Koreans ( no need for an alarm clock I suspect) and the inevitable lous American college students. Kind of glad I’m heading off in a different direction tomorrow!
Token photo from the train window. All flat surfaces (and some not so flat) are graffitied. I’m not sure why they even bother to paint the train carriages!
