via francigena 2019

in 990, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Sigeric, travelled to Rome in order to receive his ecclesiastical vestment. He recorded his route and his stops on the return journey in a journal, which is now in the British Library. The modern day via francigena re-creates his route, which the Council of Europe designated it a Major Cultural Route in 2004. see Wikipedia

Max and I are continuing our camino enthusiasm, but planning to detour off Sigeric’s route in order to visit the grave of my Great Uncle, Alexander Campbell, who was killed in action in the battle of Messines and is buried in Belgium, and we will rejoin the official route in Arras.
