Via Tolosana/voie d’Arles day 23: Forester

Castres to Anglès, 33.2 km

Typical of today’s scenery

It was not originally my intent to do another 30+ day, but the accommodation I had planned to stay at was “undeliverable” when contacted via email. I anticipated a 37 km day, but fortunately that turned out to be slightly high. What was also slightly high were the hills along the way – if my app is accurate, then the net gain was 1,180m. As per the day’s tag line, there were definitely some times when a passing Subaru Forester would have tempted me to thumb a ride. But while my legs were burning. I did spare s thought for the pèlerins going the other way, who may well be icing sore knees right about now!

The path bypassed a couple of villages, and the one I passed through (which is a recommended night stop) was rather gloomy and in a steep valley. Boissezon had no shortage of gîtes, but no restaurants that I could see. It also had many low rise apartments of more recent construction, but what people do in the town is a mystery. There must be some economic activity that’s not obvious, and it certainly isn’t farming in the steep valley.
