Lorgues to Le Muy. 19.9 km

A short but pleasant walk…. until the last 3 km! Pleasant farmland, numerous wineries covering the spectrum of hobby winemakers to full-on, grandiose domaines or chateau with giant signs and manicured grounds. The countryside was again dotted with retirement homes or summer retreats, and in their absence, forests.
It rained hard overnight, but by the time I set out the skies were clearing and it was a pleasant day. Fortunately the route was either paved or rocky, as the local red clay soil would have been a nightmare to walk on when wet!

The town of Le Muy, tonight’s stop, is unlike any other town on this section of my walk. It is a working town, with no quaint medieval centre full of bars and restaurants. The outskirts are full of light industrial services, and in the town you are more likely to hear Arabic than French. It’s only 20 km from some of the famous coastal towns of the Côte d’Azur: Saint Tropez, Saint Raphael, and not much further to Cannes.
For me, the highlight was finally being able to report that the food I ingested, was digested. My lunch of leftovers from last night’s pasta dinner was the first meal I’ve actually enjoyed since last Friday. I’ve moved on from bananas, apple sauce and sports drink to normal food again. Yay! Perfect timing so that I can enjoy the restaurants and food options awaiting Susan and I in Cassis next week!
