Shikoku day 5 – return to Tokushima

Temple 14 to 17, 17.1 km

I missed posting last night as we had a cultural experience – going to a performance of traditional dance for the region. There was audience participation at the end, for which Sam did Canada proud by being awarded a certificate for his efforts!

The day otherwise was very rainy, and the paths both between temples and from Temple 17 back into the city were less than inspirational. We stayed at the same Hostel PAQ (and the same room) that we stayed in on the first night, so we knew we had comfortable “beds” to look forward to. The staff at the hostel were very helpful in helping us with onward reservations, particularly when Sam noticed an issue with my scheduling. I’d mis-calculated distances between stops which would have had us walking 30 km with 2 mountain-top temples along the way. So the staff helped us book a different (and better located) place, then cancelling the one we’d already booked. All this well beyond our minimal Japanese!
